MANLY TALES OF COWARDICE # 1/2–pin-up jam by STWALLEY and DANK

If I’m not mistaken this was the first pin-up STEVE tried his hand at for this issue.  Well, he didn’t like how it was working out so he stopped with the pencils, but he did give me said pencils along with the 3 other finished pin-ups.  Well whether he liked it or not I–danno!–like inking.  So I figured I’d try my hand at Steve’s pencils.  The result wasn’t 100%, but ok.  I tried to bury any failure in the coloring.  Did it work?

UP NEXT:  I’ve been working on a whole bunch of cool stuff lately–actually, too much cool stuff, most of which is filed under “secret project” status–but I’m going to share some of what I can next week. Don’t call it ‘filler’, that’s just cruel.  Accurate, but cruel.   And then I’ll be back on January 31st with the all-new, internet-exclusive MANLY TALES OF COWARDICE # 8 !!!

MANLY TALES OF COWARDICE # 1/2–Fleming Pin-up–by STEVEN STWALLEY

Once I decided to go ahead and draw the Manly Tales # 1/2 script by STEVEN STWALLEY I figured I’d make a mini out of it, so I immediately asked Steve for a pin-up image for the back cover.  Steve being Steve instead turned around and gave me FOUR pin-ups to choose from!  I then turned around and decided to save this yarn for the MANLY TALES OF COWARDICE Vol. 1 trade (and, I guess, the internet), thereby making a back cover pin-up moot (except for here…the internet).  So I both thank and apologize to you, Steve.  (ps: one of the four pin-ups was on the part 1 post for Manly Tales # 1/2.  The rest will appear here this week!)

MANLY TALES OF COWARDICE # 1/2–part 6(of 6! The end!)–by STWALLEY and DANK

So there we go.  A fun little a side road before we get to MANLY TALES OF COWARDICE #8.  Thanks a million times to STEVEN STWALLEY for his wonderfully random script (both in content and in its creation).  But we’re not done with issue # 1/2 and Steve–OH NO!  What would an issue of Manly Tales be like without some pin-ups.  So next week–the issue 1/2 Stwalley pin-ups!!!  See you then.

MANLY TALES OF COWARDICE # 1/2–part 5(of 6)–by STWALLEY and DANK

So…yeah…when STEVEN STWALLEY wrote this his direction for page 9 was to have about 12 or 13 Flemings milling about, each more weirdly mutated than the last.  Well, I didn’t quite hit 13 (ran out of room), but I sure had fun making them up.  Especially the Fleming/Betsy/Atlantis Lad one.  I should also note this is the point in the story where I realized I was REALLY tired of drawing it.  Like I said on the first post for issue # 1/2, I like to break up my MANLY TALES by doing something else in-between issues.  I learned this was a good idea after I did issues 3 and 4 simultaneously and really burnt myself out on these characters.  But for this I figured “What the heck, it’s only 12 pages…”  Yeah…12 pages of NOTHING BUT HAZMAT!!!  Man I’m tired of drawing that guys mug for the moment.

MANLY TALES OF COWARDICE # 1/2–part 4(of 6)–by STWALLEY and DANK, also: “Continuity Guy” Ker-splosion!

The way STEVEN STWALLEY wrote page 6 the bickering Flemings were the forefront of the action with the Atlantis Lad/Remote business going on behind them.  Well, maybe if I was a better penciller I could work all that in to 6 panels, but I ain’t.  Instead I focused on what I thought was the thrust of the gag–Atlantis Lad’s mental debate about watching TV.  In the end I think I worked out best this way, and in fact if I hadn’t written the above Steve probably wouldn’t even know I butchered his script.  Ah well.  As for page 7…well, this is just the tip of the weird iceberg that is this story–and not too soon with only 5 pages to go!

ALSO:  As you may know, BUD BURGY is currently in the process of bringing my script for CONTINUITY GUY: CHRONO CHOAS to life, and over the weekend Bud pumped out FOUR ALL-NEW PAGES for you to enjoy.  Check out the story today.

MANLY TALES OF COWARDICE # 1/2–part 3(of 6)–by STWALLEY and DANK

When guest authors write a Manly Tale–like STEVEN STWALLEY did here–I usually let them have a little bit more leeway with the characters than I would take.  Basically, they get to swear more, be more violent, and possibly make with the sexy.  Glad I do, cause that first panel of page 5 is about one of my favorite moments in all of Manly Tales of Cowardice history.

And don’t forget to check out REPANELED to see what myself and several other cartoonists have been up to.
