Ok, so not only is MERMZY a NSFW comic, it’s a comic based on somewhere I used to work. How ironic! Mad thanks to AZ SWART for co-creating the MERMZY mythos with me lo’ those many moons ago…

Ok, so this is easily the weirdest comic I ever made. Since it was done in 2005 it’s full of hot-button 2005 issues you should get ready to google: Terri Shaivo, Christopher Reeve, Hanging Chads, Jeb Bush, and the death of Pope John Paul II. Anyway, this story is weird and offensive and awesome (except the art and lettering. Those could be LOTS better).
MIX is only 3 weeks away! CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?!?! So I’m counting-down to MIX each week with a sampling of what I’ll have to offer. Last time I mentioned the debuts of both the MANLY TALES OF COWARDICE and SUPERMARKET VIGILANTE graphic novels, but those won’t be the only debuts I’m part of…
Conspirator, FALSE WITNESS collaborator, and person with whom in 5 days I will be very drunk with in Mexico LUPI McGINTY will finally be debuting her GERM WARFARE book at MIX! GERM WARFARE, an anthology, tells the collected stories (by Lupi, her husband Mark, and others) of Stew and Beryl–a couple of germaphobes with a germ-prone baby. There are also lots of anthropomorphic germs. The image above is from my very sci-fi seven page take on these characters. I can’t wait to see the book! Its been gestating for almost a year now. I recently got to see the cover by ATHENA CURRIER (who will also be having a debut of her own–the collected ACTION ATHENA)and its totally amazing! Lupi is also a co-host of the GEEK REPORT podcast and they will be doing a live show at MIX as well. So yay!!! Lots to look forward too! I’ll see you at MIX!
Also: The 24 HOUR COMIC DAY episode of the LUTEFISK SUSHI PODCAST is up now and the next episode–featuring the Beardhero himself–will be up come Thursday.
**The above image is not by me, but rather by collaborator BUD BURGY (who last week did a lovely write-up of my forth-coming SUPERMARKET VIGILANTE book) . A keen-eyed observer may notice one FLEMING HAZMAT tucked away in the image. Not only that, but the band NATIONAL BIRD features one Casey “NELS” Nelson –a name you may recognize as one of the original “STAPLEGENIUS FOUR” and also the co-creator of CONTINUITY GUY (the comic Bud and I now do together. Ciiiiiiiiiiircle of Life!). FYI Nels– As the Assy Neckman as my witness, you WILL have a book of your recently unearthed comics in the next LUTEFISK SUSHI!!! Speaking of Lutefisk Sushi…
**The LUTEFISK SUSHI PODCAST was a modest hit, and I couldn’t be happier! Look for episode this Thursday (on the website or subscribe on itunes).
**Finally, 24 HOUR COMIC DAY is this Saturday, October 1st. If you live in Minnesota be sure to join the Cartoonist Conspiracy for the 8th year of 24 hour cartooning! This is the first year I WON’T be participating fully in the event, but I’ll certainly be there for a while to draw and support those doing the 24 Hour dare! Hope to see you there!
PREVIOUSLY: Stuff happened. AND NOW: The thrilling conclusion.
So there you go. My 7th 24 Hour comic. My 5th 24 Hour comic that involved an explosion. Anyway, I’ll be back after TURKEY DAY with…something…like the continuing adventures of FLEMING HAZMAT, BETSY ROSSBOT, and ATLANTIS LAD. That’s right! MANLY TALES OF COWARDICE will be back next week! We’ll start off with issue #7–the awesome, almost all-action issue–and then follow that up with the NEVER-BEFORE-SEEN issue #8 and the NEVER-BEFORE-SEEN 12 page special written by STEVEN STWALLEY. Look out 2011–here comes…that stuff.
And don’t forget Black Friday…
Let the above be a reminder to ye: At least once a week go check out the amazing work BUD BURGY is doing bringing to life my script for CONTINUITY GUY: CHRONO CHAOS!!!
ALSO: This Friday–NOVEMBER 26th aka “BLACK FRIDAY“– I will be at The Source Comics and Games helping to promote “SUPER HEROES, STRIP ARTISTS, and TALKING ANIMALS” by BRITT AMMODT. I don’t have any actual details beyond that, but hopefully I will by Wednesdays post.
My one of my favorite thing about writing is when you get to a point in a story where you have to tie a whole bunch of seemingly unrelated things together to make it all seem seamlessly planned from the start. Realizing Glenn Peck with his explanation chalkboard could double as a the lawyer element I needed at this point in ‘Arnold’ made me chuckle with gleeeeeee! Not only does it call back to earlier, but it really does make it seem like I know what I’m doing as a writer. I totally don’t.
