   BRIAN BASTIAN— Has freedom hair.

RYAN DOW—  Ryan dow has won my heart–from his consistently solid art and story on his “INTROSPECTIVE COMICS” webcomic, to his introspective thoughts on comics during the ART AND STORY podcasts–my heart Ryan Dow has won.  Ryan is a well-loved fixture of the Mpls/Stpl Cells of the International Cartoonist Conspiracy, taking part in all the usual hoo-hah (like BIG FUNNY and MUSCLES AND FIGHTS), and doing his own great comics along the way (like PLUNGER-MAN, WEEKENDS WITH CARL, and JACK AND ZACK MAKE A COMIC).  He’s even part of the QUORUM OF TWELVE(or so) who are putting together LUTEFISK SUSHI “D”–a highlight of his contribution being the “LSD” podcast he is starting which will have interviewers with fellow QUORUMers and SUSHI “D” contributors (The first episode will be up soon and features some windbag).   You have my heart, Ryan.  Now hold me, you big hunky introspective cartoonist, you!  Hold me and make all the bad men go away.

Well, I’m glad you are the first podcast guest.

I like the Fleming Hazmat wink.

I was never really sure if the squares over his eyes were glasses or actually eyes. Guessing by the rest of the guess art, they were glasses, which means that Flemming must have extraordinary eye muscles to be able to swallow lenses that way.

They could also be huge eyebrows!

I figure if Spider-man can make his mask eyes larger or smaller, so can Fleming Hazmat. It’s only fair.

Also, I just have to say in that last panel the guy really looks to me like Ed Asner. So much so that now I can’t stop thinking about writing an Ed Asner comic. At the very least he’s going to be in the next script I write.

I guess I should clear the air on this… Yes, those are glasses, not eyes. And yes, Ryan did accurately depict him swallowing the lense into his eye cavity. Fleming can do this as a result of a teenage injury–His father, Phineus Hazmat, paid some South American natives beat Fleming within an inch of his life. You see Phineus had left Fleming in charge of recently uncovered Mayan Pyramid for one night. Fleming had recently seen RISKY BUSINESS and, well…you can imagine what Phineus found upon his return. It didn’t help that Phineus had left in the first place to round-up some National Geographic photographers who sent their photos to the AP as soon as they returned to civilization. And so, the beating ensued.

Also Brian–I look forward to “UP 2: GERIATRIC BOOGALOO”.
